New to Boxing? Start Here

Never thrown a punch? That's fine. Plenty of our members walked in as complete beginners. Here's what to expect before your first class at BoxcleverLDN on Kensington High Street.

Do I need any boxing experience?

No. Our coaches teach the fundamentals step by step: stance, footwork and punch combinations. Every drill can be scaled to your level, so you'll be shown what to do rather than expected to know it already.

Will I get hit?

Not unless you choose to. Our group classes are mostly non-contact: you hit bags and pads, not people. Contact is limited to our optional Sparring class. Headguards and sparring gloves are provided for that class, so you just need your own gumshield.

What should I bring?

Comfortable gym clothes, trainers and a water bottle. We lend gloves and wraps to first-timers, so you don’t need to buy anything before you start. If you’d like your own kit later, our shop sells hand wraps from £5 and gloves from £60.

What happens in a first class?

Try to arrive a few minutes early so you can meet your coach and mention any injuries. Classes run for 50 minutes and mix technique and combinations with bag or pad work and full-body conditioning.

Which class should I start with?

BOXCLEVER SIGNATURE is a good all-round introduction, combining technical work, bag drills and full-body exercises. If you'd like more strength work, try BOX STRENGTH, a circuit class that combines boxing with strength training. See the full timetable on our Classes page.
